  We Meet ...

Services at Shepherd of the Hills are joyous and welcoming. Each week, the sermons offer a fresh outlook on our lives, our work, our communities and the world.

There's always something new to learn, a new song to make your heart sing, and a new friend to meet. Faith is contagious - come and catch ours!

All church members are welcomed and encouraged to participate in services. The service times are listed on our Home Page. The server schedule for the coming months can be found at We Serve.

Children's Sermon

How do you explain a bible lesson to 30 little kids? By making it fun!

Each Sunday, about 10 minutes into the 10:15 am services, all children ages three to eight are called to the front of the church, aided by a merry tune from Music Director and Organist Ronn Sacchiero. Once all the little ones are comfortably seated on the carpet, the pastor or special guest uses colorful language and props to teach the day's lesson. Once a month, our Puppet Ministry team puts on a puppet show for the kids. Bright colors, funny voices and simple themes offer even the youngest children a meaningful message to take away. Audience participation is always welcome! Then, off to Sunday school to learn more.

Music

Ronn, our organist and music director, fills our sanctuary with praise and joyful music each Sunday morning. At our 8:00 and 10:15 services, we celebrate the power of the Holy Spirit together with music ranging from traditional to contemporary.

The Shepherd of the Hills choir is always open to new singers. Get in touch if you'd like to join in!

Sunday Coffee Hour

Meeting people and getting together for Christian fellowship is an important part of life at Shepherd of the Hills, and Sunday morning coffee hour is no exception.

After the service, grab a bagel and some coffee an join us for conversation and fellowship. Coffee hour is an opportunity for members - who come from towns ranging from Branchville and Stockholm to Denville and Budd Lake, as well as Sparta - to reconnect and have a chat.

If you are new to the church, make sure you say hello to Pastor Scott and he'll introduce you around.

Each week, members of the congregation give their time to prepare and host coffee hour. The church provides the bagels, bagel fixings and hot drinks. Hosts may bring additional baked goods.

 Soup & Bread Supper

"Soup Supper" is a weekly gathering on Wednesdays during Lent for a pot-luck dinner and a presentation on biblical and theological themes led by Pastor Scott. As we study scripture, we seek to move beyond the literal interpretation to uncover the message of the biblical writers. The presentation is followed by round-table discussions on how the themes relate to our lives today.

Come along, and bring a friend! We always finish at 8 pm sharp, so children and other early risers can get to bed on time.

Soup supper agenda:

  • 6:15 to 7:00 pm - dinner (bring soup or chili )
  • 7:00 to 8:00 pm sharp - Bible study and discussion
