Sharing our time, talents and energies in service to others is a central part of our church activities. Each month, we prepare and deliver food to Trinity Lutheran Church's soup kitchen in nearby Dover, NJ.
Three times a year, our church hosts homeless individuals and families as part of our involvement in the Interfaith Council for the Homeless.
We also provide food for local food banks and donations to Pass It Along, our hometown charity. Our mission work involves members of all ages - from our fundraising efforts at the Fall Family Fun Festival to our bi-annual blood drive.
Regular donations keep Shepherd of the Hills welcoming and comfortable for all who come to learn, share and celebrate Christ's teachings.
Our church is funded solely by its members. To meet our financial commitments - mortgage, electricity, heating, maintenance, administrative, education and hospitality costs - we all pitch in our resources and fund-raising energies. Here's how it works: At the end of each year, each member or family estimates their annual giving for the coming year. From these pledges, the church Council produces an operating budget for the new year.
There are two ways you can donate funds to the church. First, with Simply Giving, which allows you to make an automatic transfer from your bank account on a weekly or monthly basis. This provides us with predictable income to operate the church. The second way is to use traditional church envelopes in the collection plate during services. All donations made electronically or by numbered envelope are recorded in the Church Office. Members receive regular statements to keep track of their giving; these statements can be used to secure deductions at tax time.
Another way to support the church is with SOTH Shopping. You may purchase shopping cards for Shop-Rite and Pathmark supermarkets at face value from our church office. For each $100 in cards we sell, the supermarkets donate $5 to the church. (So if you normally spend $400 a month on food, your local supermarket will donate $20 to Shepherd of the Hills at no cost to you!).
Shepherd of the Hills also participates in iGive, an online shopping portal that benefits non-profit organizations and charities. You can designate Shepherd of the Hills a favorite cause on iGive, and the site's retailers will donate a portion of your spending to the church.
