Last Supper
Holy Week is festive time at Shepherd of the hills, starting with Palm Sunday. On Maundy Thursday, we hold a Last Supper Re-enactment. On Good Friday, we hold an hour of devotions in the afternoon, and then an evening Tenebrae Service of Shadows. Sunday services are accompanied by a special Easter brunch.
Each Spring, Shepherd of the Hills sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt that is open to all. Church members welcome families from the community for Easter crafts, an egg hunt, games and refreshments. Don't miss it!
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is an opportunity for children from Sparta and the surrounding area to enjoy a fun and educational summer week learning Bible stories, doing crafts and playing games.
Shepherd of the Hills welcomes all children, ages four through nine, for five fun-filled mornings in early August.
Get in touch to learn more, or if you would like to volunteer as a teacher or games coordinator.
Family Fun Festival
Just when the air is starting to chill and the leaves are showing signs of turning colors, Shepherd of the Hills welcomes October with its annual Family Fun Festival. The day-long festival, held in the church grounds, features music, children's crafts, face painting, pony rides, a moon bounce, petting zoo, pumpkin contest and cake walk. "Chez Shepherd," the festival's food attraction, offers barbecue fare, including jalapeno hot dogs, as well as homemade soups, chilies and desserts. All are welcome, and bring a friend!
Don't miss our children's Halloween party, for an afternoon of crafts, games and a costume parade.
If you're a grownup, don't worry - there's fun for you too. Shepherd of the Hills holds a Halloween party just for adults, with interesting (okay, bizarre!) refreshments and fun dance music.
Last year's Women's Lunch was themed, "Foods of the Bible," and featured a biblical menu with a speaker on healthy eating.
Tree Trimming
Decorating our church for Christmas is, like most things at Shepherd of the Hills, a social event! It happens in early December, and all are welcome to come for a hearty feast and a night of fun.
While the adults are decking the halls, children can enjoy kids' fellowship at the crafts table, where they can making beautiful ornaments for their own Christmas trees.
Christmas at Shepherd of the Hills is a magical way for children and adults to appreciate the breathtaking beginning of Christianity. Each December, we hold a Live Nativity event, featuring church members as Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, wise men and angels, with live farm animals playing themselves. All are welcome to come, enjoy refreshments and fellowship. Later in December, the church's children perform Christmas carols for the congregation in our annual Christmas pageant.
On Super Bowl Sunday each year, we have a pot luck dinner and snack feast in Parish Hall. Come and join us for an evening of spectator fun and fellowship. We have a big-screen TV! Children are welcome.
