Sunday School
During Sunday school each week, your child's lesson will focus the same theme as our church service. Subject matter may include lessons from the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Creeds, the history of the Church, the Lord's Prayer and the Ten Commandments.
All classes strive to link the rich history of the Bible to our lives today. We use the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum, which emphasizes educating parents so they can nurture and educate their children at home. We believe that families grow together in faith, and our Christian education programs support that belief.

First Communion, which along with Baptism is one of our two sacraments, is an important and joyous process for children and their parents. We call the sacrament Communion because it is the place where we come together - in union - with God and with one another for spiritual nourishment. It is a visible reminder that God's forgiveness is always there to share.
Parents and children attend Communion class together, to learn and reinforce the meaning of the sacrament. Classes are held in the Spring of the child's fourth-grade year. There are four evening classes, followed by a First Communion ceremony during a 10:15 Sunday service in early June.
Confirmation, an affirmation of Baptism, is an opportunity for young people to reaffirm the Baptismal promises made on their behalf by parents, godparents and the congregation. Confirmation gives young people an opportunity to reinforce their beliefs in God's love, which empowers them to serve others.
Classes, which meet on Wednesday nights at church, start in sixth grade, with Confirmation in eighth grade. The classes put Bible lessons and Church history in context, focusing on their relevance for our growth as Christians in a modern world. Our curriculum makes use of multimedia, music, books and activities to engage and interest young people. We even use clips of popular films as catalysts for discussion.
As part of the Confirmation process, young people take part in discipleship activities, including being an acolyte or singing in the choir during church services, serving as an aide in elementary-age Sunday school classes and helping in the nursery. Young people can also participate in cooking for the Trinity Soup Kitchen, help with church and grounds upkeep and get involved in Maritime ministries.
Shepherd of the Hills offers many opportunities for Adult Education and fellowship, including an Adult Forum and Small Group Study. Come, meet and discuss how scripture applies to our lives today.
